The Problem

A company held approximately 1.2 billion human tissue sample slides, primarily blood smears, representing one of the largest pathology archives in existence. The scientific and diagnostic value locked inside that dataset was enormous. The ability to access it was not.

Every slide required manual microscope review to extract meaningful data. At any realistic throughput for human pathologists, analyzing the full archive at scale was not a timeline problem. It was a structural impossibility. The dataset existed, but without a way to process it, that value stayed locked away.

The challenge wasn't data quality, but how fast that data could be put to use. Human review created a hard ceiling on how quickly and how much of the archive could be made useful. To make the dataset commercially and scientifically actionable, the review process itself had to be eliminated as the bottleneck.

The Solution

AI models were built to analyze DICOM-format images of tissue slides automatically, performing the full range of pathology assessments that previously required a trained human reviewer at a microscope.
